Gov. Azanza Pushes for Telemedicine Expansion to Cut Travel Costs and Speed Up Local Healthcare
Governor Patrick Azanza announced that the provincial government will acquire 10 additional portable automated telemedicine machines, ensuring that every municipality in Catanduanes has access to immediate, localized medical screenings.
This initiative aims to bring modern medical services directly to remote communities, saving patients from making costly and unnecessary trips to the capital. By decentralizing healthcare, these portable units can be deployed directly to the barangay level for vital signs and basic laboratory work-ups.
Doctors can then use the machine’s real-time data to conduct virtual consultations, diagnose patients, and issue prescriptions remotely.
To ensure accessibility for all, Governor Azanza assured the public that the use of these telemedicine machines will be completely free.
The Governor highlighted that the primary goal is to provide swift medical intervention while sparing residents the physical and financial burden of traveling to the provincial center.
He emphasized that there is no need to immediately rush a patient to Virac if the initial screening can be efficiently handled at the barangay or municipal level. By utilizing these machines, local health workers can determine if a patient actually requires advanced facility care or if they can be treated right then and there.
Currently, Catanduanes has two operational telemedicine units. Once the ten new machines are rolled out, the provincial government guarantees that every single municipality in the province will have its own dedicated unit to serve its constituents.
